David Roy Akers is an American football placekicker who last played for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League. He played college football for the University of Louisville, and was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Atlanta Falcons in 1997. On September 9, 2012, Akers tied the NFL record for longest field goal by kicking a 63-yard field goal off the crossbar against the Green Bay Packers in week one of the 2012 season. Akers has also been a member of the Carolina Panthers, Washington Redskins, Berlin Thunder and Philadelphia Eagles. He has been selected for the Pro Bowl six times in his career. He is currently a free agent.
